How to Make Video Calls of up to 8 People on WhatsApp

We are going to explain how to make video calls of up to 8 people on WhatsApp , so that you can take advantage of the latest change in the messaging service, which is experimenting with expanding the maximum number of participants in your video calls from four to eight people.

The change began to be applied in the beta versions of WhatsApp, and now it begins to reach the final versions of the application. This means that you will have to have the app updated to the latest version in order to use it, and that if you cannot, you will have to wait for future updates.

On Android, the only thing you need is to enter Google Play and update to the latest version, although it is not reaching all devices at the same time and you may have to wait a few days. In iOS you have to update from the App Store , with a version 2.20.50 that again is not reaching everyone equally.

Group video call from a group

You have two ways to proceed to make these video calls. In the first, you have to create a group with all the participants. If you already have one, you can skip the following steps, and if not, go to the main WhatsApp screen, and in it click on the new conversation button that you will have in green at the bottom right of the screen.

A screen will open where you will see all your contacts so you can click on the person you want to talk to. If you want to make a group, click on the New group option that you will see above all.

You will come to another screen where you will again be able to see all your contacts. In it, click on the contacts you want to add to the group you are going to create (1). The members you are selecting will appear in a list at the top. Once you have selected all the members you want, click on the green icon with the arrow to the right (2) that you will see at the bottom right of the screen to continue.

You will go to a last screen, in which the participants of the group you are going to create will appear at the bottom. Above, you will be able to enter the group's name and an icon to identify it in conversations. Once you have it to your liking, click on the green accept button to create the group.

If the group has eight or fewer people and they all have the latest beta version of WhatsApp , you can start the video call by clicking on the specific camera button that appears to the right of the name. If any of the participants cannot join and you are between four and eight, they may be missing an update.

Group video call from the calls section

Another method without having to create a group is to use the calling section . To do this, on WhatsApp you have to click on the Calls tab that you will see at the top. Once inside, press the new call button that appears with a phone icon and the addition symbol.

Then, click on the New group call option , and now you only have to choose the other seven contacts you want to call. You will go to a list where you have to select them and click on the camera icon to make it a video call. You will all go to a grill of up to eight windows depending on how many you are.
