List of best-selling phones in the first quarter of 2020

By far the first quarter of 2020 has been one of the most disastrous for the sale of mobile phones in the world.

Canalys  and  Counterpoint Research reported 13 percent year-over-year drops between January and March, while Omdia said smartphone shipments fell 16 percent.

Along these lines, the lowest figures were for the three main market players, with Samsung and Huawei seeing a year-on-year drop of between 17 and 18 percent, while Apple's decline was estimated at between 5 and 12 percent.

But beyond this disastrous panorama, Canalys also revealed a list of the best-selling phones during this first quarter of the pandemic.

In the graph you can see a clear winner: Apple, with its iPhone 11 . Those of the manzanita also scored sixth place, with the iPhone 11 Pro Max , and tenth, with the iPhone 11 Pro.

Strangely to what many would have thought, Samsung was not the brand with the best-selling Android, but Xiaomi, which displaced Huawei with the sale of the Redmi Note 8 and 8T.

In addition, the Chinese brand scored in fifth place, with the Redmi Note 8 pro, and ninth place, placing the Redmi 8A.

Omdia and Counterpoint Research also note that Realme experienced explosive growth during the quarter, claiming growth of between 88 and 157 percent.

Samsung had to settle for third place on the podium, with the popular Galaxy A51 , its highest-demand mid-range.

The Koreans also took fourth place, with the Galaxy A10, and seventh and eighth places, with the A20 and A01.

Omdia research director Jusy Hong warned that "the smartphone market will face great difficulties in the first half of 2020 as different countries experience the initial shock and recovery periods at different times."

"This is why original equipment manufacturers are most afraid of second-quarter sales results. However, Omdia expects the smartphone market to begin to recover in some countries and regions in the second half of the year, "he added.
